Every service on this list lets you order blood work online, pay out of pocket, and get results without a physician’s order. No insurance, no waiting rooms.

This guide maps each service against the Universal Baseline and specialty markers from the Know Your Numbers testing guide — so you know exactly what each service covers and where the gaps are before you order.

💡 Quick Recommendation

For most researchers: Function Health ($365/yr) covers nearly the full Pineland Research baseline with 2 draws/year + clinician review — and just dropped to $1/day. For specialty/oxidative markers (8-OHdG, RBC Glutathione): add Marek Diagnostics. For maximum flexibility without a subscription: Walk-In Lab or Ulta Lab Tests à la carte.

📅 Monthly Trend Tracking

Rythm
Monthly at-home finger prick · not for protocol baselines

rythmhealth.com
$79/month advertised · true cost ~$100/mo w/ Tasso+ kit + shipping · ~$1,200/yr · HSA/FSA eligible
At-home monthly finger-prick testing with results in 72 hours. Strong for cardiovascular and hormone trend tracking. Not appropriate for protocol baselines — significant gaps in the Pineland Research marker set. Best use case is monthly monitoring of core markers between full-panel draws.
Total T + Free T
Estradiol + Progesterone
ApoB + LDL + HDL
hsCRP
TSH + Free T3
SHBG + Ferritin
Vit D + B12
Biological Age
~28 markers total

❌ Missing vs. Pineland Research Baseline
IGF-1 · Fasting Insulin · HbA1c · LH · FSH · AM Cortisol · Free T4 · Full CBC · Full CMP · DHEA-S · Prolactin · Homocysteine · RBC Magnesium · IL-6 · 8-OHdG · RBC Glutathione

💰 Deals & Notes
Limited-time 20% off codes available (check site). HSA/FSA eligible. At-home convenience — no draw site required. Best used as a monthly check-in between quarterly or semi-annual full-panel draws. Do not use as your primary protocol baseline — too many critical markers are missing.
⚠️ Important Limitation

At ~$1,200/year (with Tasso+ kit + shipping), Rythm costs over 3× what Function Health charges — but covers roughly half the markers. The value is in monthly frequency for trend tracking, not depth. If you’re running any GH, metabolic, or hormone protocol from the Pineland Research guide, IGF-1 and fasting insulin are non-negotiable markers that Rythm simply doesn’t test.

Tips for Accurate Results
🕗 Fasting Requirements
  • Fast 8–12 hours before: Fasting Glucose, HbA1c, Fasting Insulin, Lipid Panel, CMP
  • AM Cortisol: Draw before 9 AM — cortisol drops sharply after this window
  • Hormones + thyroid: fasting preferred, not strictly required
  • Water is fine — coffee, exercise, and stress all skew results
⚠️ Protocol Timing
  • Draw baseline before starting any research protocol
  • Wait 48+ hours after last administration before drawing labs
  • Retest at 8 weeks — enough time for measurable changes
  • Track trends, not single values
🔬 Assay Type Matters
  • Estradiol: Always order the “sensitive” or “LC/MS-MS” version — not standard immunoassay (especially for males or anyone on a protocol)
  • Magnesium: Order RBC Magnesium — not serum magnesium. They’re different tests entirely.
  • CRP: Order high-sensitivity CRP (hs-CRP) — not standard CRP
🚨 When to See a Doctor
  • Any marker in the Red Flag zone (see Know Your Numbers guide)
  • Chest pain, severe fatigue, sudden cognitive changes
  • PSA elevation in males over 40
  • Any abnormal result you can’t explain — DTC labs are for research, not diagnosis

📌 State Restrictions

New York, New Jersey, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts restrict certain DTC lab tests. Function Health is not available in RI, HI, or Puerto Rico. Walk-In Lab has test restrictions in NY, NJ, RI, and MA. Mito Health notes pricing may vary in NY, NJ, and RI. If you’re in one of these states, verify availability before purchasing.
